Insomniac Games has confirmed via Twitter that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will feature an optional 4K/60FPS “Performance Mode” when the game launches on PS5 this holiday season. This is a vast improvement over Spidey’s PS4 outing, which tops out at 30FPS and variable sub-4K resolutions, depending on which model of the console is being used.
While it’s nice to know that a buttery smooth framerate option will be available, there are still a few things we don’t know about this new performance mode. It remains to be seen if the resolution is native 4K or upscaled/checkerboarded, and which graphical features(such as possible ray tracing) will be disabled when the mode is in use.
When Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was announced during the PS5 reveal stream last month, there was some confusion as to what content the game was comprised of. While Sony VP Simon Rutter initially categorized it as “an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game,” Insomniac later clarified that it will be a standalone game, similar to inFAMOUS: First Light or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
