Ghost of Tsushima is Sony’s Fastest-Selling New IP on PS4

Ghost of Tsushima has only been out for a week and it has already become a massive success for Sony. According to the official PlayStation Twitter account, Sucker Punch’s samurai action game sold over 2.4 million copies around the world in three days, making it Sony’s fastest-selling original IP debut on the PS4.

In addition to breaking sales milestones, the game has also been a hit with critics. At the time of writing, Ghost of Tsushima is sitting at an 83 Metascore on Metacritic, with users scores averaging around 9.3. This stands in stark contrast to fellow first-party title The Last of Us Part II, which proved to be extremely divisive, despite selling over 4 million copies in one week.

A slate of strong first-party exclusives, which also includes God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Horizon Zero Dawn, has been a difference maker for Sony this generation. Since launching in November 2013, the PS4 has sold a staggering 110 million units, making it the second best-selling home console of all time.

Sony surely hopes that success will continue with the PS5, which is scheduled to release during the holiday season. Several high-profile first-party exclusives have been announced for the new hardware, including Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Gran Turismo 7.
