Joker is the First DLC Fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

After Fortnite took home the award for Best Ongoing Game at The Game Awards 2018, the lights went out at the Microsoft Theater, where the event was being broadcast live. Moments later, a trailer appeared on the screen that confirmed Persona 5’s Joker as the first DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The trailer can be viewed below.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé joined The Game Awards host and creator Geoff Keighley on the stream shortly after the trailer wrapped up to provide additional details. Joker will be available as the first offering in the game’s Fighters Pass, which will include five Challenger Packs. Each Challenger Pack consists of one fighter, one new stage, and additional music tracks. The Fighters Pass can be purchased on the Nintendo eShop now for $24.99, but each Challenger Pass will also be available separately for $5.99 as they are released. A specific release date for the Joker Challenger Pack was not revealed.

The addition of Joker to the Smash roster is a surprising one, as Persona 5 is only available on PS3 and PS4. Nonetheless, the game is considered by many to be the one of the best Japanese RPGs of the current console generation.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now. Those who purchase the game digitally or register their physical game card by January 31, 2019 will receive the Piranha Plant fighter free of charge.
