The Game Awards 2018: Mortal Kombat 11 Announced

Mortal Kombat 11, the next entry in the brutal, long-running fighting game franchise, was officially announced during The Game Awards 2018 by series co-creator Ed Boon. Boon was acting as the presenter for the show’s Best Sports/Racing Game award category, and as viewers waited to hear the nominees, they were first treated to the following announce trailer:

The trailer doesn’t show much outside of a fight between Raiden and multiple versions of Scorpion, which seems to hint that some sort of time travel will be taking place.

The trailer also reveals that the game is set to release worldwide on April 23, 2019, with a community reveal event taking place on January 17. Those who pre-order the game will unlock Shao Khan as a playable character, in addition to beta access. According to the game’s official website, Mortal Kombat 11 will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The most recent release in the Mortal Kombat series was Mortal Kombat X, which released in April 2015. It later received a total of nine characters and a variety of skins as DLC. Mortal Kombat XL, a package that combined the base game and Kombat Packs 1 and 2, was released in March 2016.

Mortal Kombat 11 was only one of several game announcements at The Game Awards. We also saw reveals of Far Cry New Dawn, Obsidian-developed RPG The Outer Worlds, and a console port of The Stanley Parable.
