Metro Exodus Goes Gold, Release Date Moved Up

Metro Exodus is done and it will be coming out a little sooner than expected.

In a news post on the official Metro website, 4A Games and Deep Silver announced that the game has “gone gold,” which means that development has wrapped up and manufacturing will soon begin. In addition, Metro Exodus will now launch on February 15, which is one week earlier than its previously scheduled date of February 22. Considering that the game was pushed to 2019 earlier this year, the release date moving up is a nice surprise.

The post also revealed the game’s title sequence, which can be viewed below.

Even though Metro Exodus  is only being bumped up a week, the move brings a little balance to a very crowded Q1 2019. As publishers announced release dates for their games at E3 earlier this year, the February 22, 2019 slot became especially busy, as EA’s Anthem, Sony’s Days Gone, and Metro Exodus were all set to release on that date. Between today’s Metro Exodus news and Sony delaying Days Gone to April a few months ago, Anthem is left as the last major title standing on February 22. Not only is the breathing room great for the aforementioned publishers, but consumers looking to play several of these games will now have more time to budget for them.

Metro Exodus will launch on its new date on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It is the latest in a series of games based off of the Metro novels by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, which follow a group of survivors who live in the subway tunnels under Moscow after a nuclear war. The two previous Metro games, Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, were released together on PS4 and Xbox One as Metro Redux in 2014.
