Final Fantasy VII Remake Has a Pretty Awful Glitch

I’ve been enjoying my play through of Final Fantasy VII Remake so far. Yesterday, however, I encountered a pretty nasty glitch in the game that, had I not been manually saving my progress on a somewhat regular basis, would have wiped out a massive chunk of my almost twenty hours of gameplay.

The glitch appears in Chapter 11 – Haunted, during the Ghoul fight. I was nearly about to finish it off, when the Ghoul grabbed Aerith, and the game abruptly shifted to a cutscene with Tifa and Marlene in Seventh Heaven. The video below (I recorded two separate clips) shows what happened when the cutscene was over.

The glitch still shows the health left on the Ghoul, though I’m no longer able to fight it. Also, the environment starts breaking up, and the characters can’t move any further than that confined space. The video ends because I received an error message on my PS4.

It’s no use continuing the game from an autosave either, because the autosave simply loads the glitch. The only solution that worked for me was loading a manual save…from about an hour and a half before Chapter 11.

This glitch doesn’t seem to be a widespread problem, but I still think it’s important to bring awareness to it, especially since the game is so long and players are putting in countless hours.

I still plan to fully review the game upon completion, and this glitch, while pretty awful, hasn’t impacted my enjoyment of the game. Final Fantasy VII Remake is currently available on PlayStation 4.
