New Overwatch Hero Baptiste Detailed

Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan has taken to YouTube to discuss the game’s 30th hero, Baptiste, who will serve as the newest support option for players.

Kaplan does a deep dive on Baptiste’s abilities in the new developer update, but here’s a brief summary of them:

Primary fire: Biotic Launcher – a three-round-burst that rewards accuracy and recoil control with significant damage output.

Secondary fire: Biotic Launcher – Lobs grenades that heal allies near the point of impact.

Ability 1: Regenerative Burst – Baptiste activates an intense surge that heals himself and nearby allies over time.

Ability 2: Immortality Field – When activated, prevents allies from dying in an area surrounding Baptiste. Affected allies cannot go below 40 health while field is active.

Ultimate: Amplifcation Matrix – Baptiste creates a field that doubles the effect of allied damage and healing projectiles that pass through it.

Passive – Baptiste can jump higher for a short time after crouching, which charges a “jump meter” that is new to the character.

Baptiste is now playable on the Overwatch Public Test Region, which is exclusive to the PC version. To access the PTR, players must select the “Region/Account” drop-down box on the game’s section of the Blizzard launcher and install it if necessary. The complete patch notes for the newest PTR update can be viewed on the Overwatch PTR forum.

While Baptiste can only be accessed on the PTR for now, he will be added to the live game on PC, PS4, and Xbox One for free at a later date.
