Bugsnax Reveals Gameplay During State of Play

Bugsnax has taken the world by storm ever since it was first announced during Sony’s Playstation 5 reveal event. The bizarre world of creatures that are part bug and part snack intrigued, but it left us all wondering what exactly the game is. Today’s first look at gameplay has lifted the veil some, giving us a better idea as to the story and what we’ll be doing in the game.

Bugsnax is a first-person game that puts players in the shoes of a journalist who wants to learn more about Bugsnax. The trailer showed the player meeting the Mayor of a town called Snaxburg and helping some of the people who live on the island with any task that they have. Some of the activities shown in the footage were leading a Bunger back to its pen, taking photos of a creature called a Rootle, and using traps to catch some of the Bugsnax.

There are multiple areas on the island, and each one appears to have different types of Bugsnax. At one point in the trailer, the Mayor says that catching Bugsnax and helping everyone could cause them to come back to Snaxburg. This is probably one of the main goals of the game.

Things take a darker turn as the trailer comes to a close, similar to how the announcement trailer did, hinting that things may not be as happy go lucky as they appear to be.

Bugsnax remains a bit of a mystery for now, but the game looks like it will be a goofy experience. The developer (Young Horse) is the same one that made Octodad: Dadliest Catch, so it’s sure to be a fun game to play that’ll also provide a good amount of laughs. Bugsnax releases on both PS4 and PS5 this holiday season.
