The Last of Us Remastered Patch 1.11 Reduces Load Times

The PS5 era begins next month, but Sony is still doing some maintenance on some of its PS4 exclusives. One such title is The Last of Us Remastered, with its 1.11 update dramatically reducing load times within the game.

YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits released a video comparing pre- and post-update load times and the results are extremely impressive. Starting a new game before the update took roughly a minute and 30 seconds, but only takes 13.86 seconds after the new update. Loading a saved game takes a little over two minutes pre-1.11, and the same load now takes a little under 14 seconds. The official patch notes only mention “misc. bug fixes” and don’t point out reduced load times, but the results speak for themselves.

Eurogamer is reporting that God of War also had its load times reduced after a recent title update. A theory flying around online is that Sony has developed a new compression method for PS4 backwards compatibility on PS5 and that it is being patched into some of the publisher’s existing titles. Ghost of Tsushima’s lighting-fast load times stunned gamers when it released back in July, so it may have been the test bed for this new technology.

Sony is releasing the PS5 in North America and Japan on November 12 and other territories on November 19. Many media outlets and influencers have begun to receive their review units, but for now, they’re only allowed to show off the box. It’s not clear we’ll see an unboxing, but with a little over two weeks to go until launch, we probably won’t have to wait very long.
