Ubisoft to Issue Bans for Using Hate Speech in Rainbow Six Siege

Ubisoft is just the latest developer and publisher to crackdown on the use of hate speech and general toxic behavior from online players in games. In a “Chat Toxicity Update” on Reddit, Ubisoft revealed the banning methods it will be using to deal with players who use racial and homophobic slurs, as well as hate speech in Rainbow Six Siege. “The bans for this will fall within the following durations, depending on severity – 2 Days, 7 Days, 15 Days, Permanent.”

The developer went on to write that it will be tracking the frequency of language that violates the Code of Conduct. For reference, it states: “Any language or content deemed illegal, dangerous, threatening, abusive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, hateful, racist, sexist, ethically offensive or constituting harassment is forbidden.”

Right now, Ubisoft has temporarily locked the thread so no one else can comment on it. There were a lot of people to voice their questions and concerns before this happened, though. Some, for example, brought up the fact the Code of Conduct and the bans will have no affect on those who play Rainbow Six Siege on consoles, and that will be something Sony and Microsoft have to regulate.

This may seem new, but Ubisoft has always had firm rules in place for those who’ve violated the Code of Conduct playing Siege. Unfortunately, with a community that large, it’s challenging to track and then ban people who constantly harass other players. This is the reality with any major online game- just ask Blizzard or PUBG Corp. The former has taken action by muting problematic players on Xbox Live with the “Avoid Me” reputation, which effectively disables their in-game voice chat.
