15 Games We Can’t Wait to Play in 2019

2018 was a hugely successful year for game releases. In fact, it could even go down as being the best in recent memory. Critically acclaimed titles like God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Red Dead Redemption 2 were immensely popular with players, with God of War and Red Dead 2 winning multiple Game of the Year awards.

However, instead of looking back, we’re look to the future with the top 15 games we can’t wait to play in 2019.

Crackdown 3

Release Date: February 19, 2019.

Platforms: Xbox One and PC.

Fans were expecting this game all the way back in 2016, but a series of delays prevented its initial release. Xbox Chief, Phil Spencer announced this summer that it needed more development time. He wanted the game to be more like the first which was a huge success.

Anthem

Release Date: February 22, 2019.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Bioware announced the release of the futuristic adventure game. Players control mechanised, combat suit-wearing characters to battle monsters in a sci-fi setting. Players can explore vast open worlds with other players online, or follow the main story solo. Also, the good news for fans is that the story DLC will be free.

Far Cry: New Dawn

Release Date: February 15, 2019.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Ubisoft’s new post-apocalyptic game picks up seventeen years after the events of Far Cry 5. Hope County, Montana is destroyed by a nuclear blast and a new civilization has emerged from the ashes. Now ‘The Twins’ are leaders of ruthless scavengers, surviving by ‘any means necessary’.

The Division 2

Release Date: March 15, 2019.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The next installment shifts to Washington, DC, taking place in the ruins of America’s capital city. Its another post-apocalyptic shooter so faces competiton as this genre will be explored extensively in 2019. Ubisoft recently announced details for skill categories available in the game.

Life Is Strange: Episode 2

Release Date: January 24, 2019.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The second season of Life is Strange continues to be a big hit with fans. The latest episode further delves into the mysterious world. However, now we should get a better look at how superpowers figure into the story.

Devil May Cry 5

Release Date: March 8, 2019.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC.

DMC fans have waited nearly a decade for the new game, and hopefully they’ll be well rewarded. The game will feature the usual characters like Dante and Nero.

Gears of War 5

Release Date: TBC.

Platforms: Xbox One and PC.

The newest installment of Gears of War finally has a new storyline with a largely new cast of characters. However, it still retains the typical brutal action and massive galactic bugs.

Metro Exodus

Release Date: February 15, 2019.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC.

On the official Metro website, the developers announced the release date had moved forward by week. The game follows on from Metro 2033 and Last Light in a post-apocalyptic Russia. A group of survivors in the metro system must head out into the wilderness in order to survive.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Release Date: January 29, 2019.

Platforms: PS4 and Xbox One

Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts III’s development was completed in November. Fans were hoping for a late 2018 release, but it was delayed to January. The sequel looks to make the story more complex by adding Disney worlds like Frozen and Toy Story.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

Release Date: January 11, 2019.

Platform: Switch

Another underrated Wii U game makes the ‘switch’ to the Switch. Players will see an enhanced version of the 2D platformer, adding new playable characters.

The Outer Worlds

Release Date: TBC.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC

Obsidian’s new sci-fi RPG will be singleplayer story built from the ground up, without online multiplayer. The game is being developed by the creative directors behind Fallout: New Vegas. Lead developer, Tim Cain has already confirmed that it won’t have microtransactions.

Pokemon

Release Date: TBC.

Platform: Switch.

Pokémon has always been a hugely successful franchise, especially the hype of Pokémon Go. Therefore, fans of the series should look out for the Switch’s first mainline Pokémon adventure. Players can expect a more traditional role-playing game with this installment.

Rage 2

Release Date: May 14, 2019.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The original Rage was the perfect metaphor for Marmite, either you love it or hate it. It was an impressive game, but took place in a drab, brown-and-gray post-apocalyptic world. However, the sequel will add more of a lighthearted tone and lots of color. Players can expect some ridiculous action combined with plentiful amounts of pink.

Minecraft: Dungeons

Release Date: TBC.

Platform: PC.

The Minecraft phenomenon is set to grow larger with a new dungeon crawling spinoff. Players can expect more structure (and loot) to the blocky universe. The game will explore deep into dangerous dungeons, including mines.

Diablo: Immortal

Release Date: TBC.

Platforms: Android and iOS.

Diablo: Immortal is probably the most controversial on this list. It angered fans at BlizzCon because it’s mobile only. However, it could have huge potential as mobile gaming is more popular than ever.
