Update: Surprise Nintendo Direct Announced
>>> Update 9/6/18: Due to an earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan, the Nintendo Direct has been pushed to an unannounced later date.
Via a Twitter announcement, Nintendo revealed that a surprise Direct will be coming our way today, September 6. Scheduled to take place at 3:00 p.m. PT and 6:00 p.m. ET, fans can expect to get some new details on upcoming Nintendo titles.
The announcement for this Direct notes that it will be about 35 minutes long, covering upcoming titles for the Nintendo 3DS and Switch. While the company did not state what games will be discussed during this Direct, we have some speculation into what Nintendo may be covering.
In terms of game announcements, there are several titles the company has previously announced that have fans clamoring for more information. One of these titles is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In the last Smash Direct, Game Director Masahiro Sakurai noted that there were still a few characters that have yet to be revealed. Considering that Mr. Sakurai also stated that all the game’s content will be announced prior to its release date, it is likely that we may receive another character announcement during this Direct.
Alongside the next iteration in the Super Smash Bros. franchise, fans are clamoring for more information on the upcoming, untitled Yoshi game and Metroid Prime 4; which were announced during Nintendo’s 2017 and 2018 E3 presentation, respectively.
The company may also announce more details on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch Online service, which will be coming later this month. This service will continue the Switch’s current online service, while adding exclusive content, including a library of 20 NES titles and save data cloud backup.
This Direct comes shortly after a two Directs centered around Nindies and the upcoming mobile title, Dragalia Lost. While we wait to find out what Nintendo will be revealing in this Direct, we are certain it will bring a great deal of exciting information.
