Players wanting to test the new ruleset and start constructing their competitive teams can do so by participating in the Championship Battle game mode of the Pokémon: Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon online battling hub, Global Link.

Alongside this shifting ruleset, Trainers can expect adjustments to the games’ format later next year. The Moon series of the competitive season will take place from January 8, 2019 to April 1, 2019; the Ultra Series will be held from April 2, 2019 until the 2019 Pokémon World Championships in August.

While fans wait for the release of Pokémon: Let’s Go Evee and Pokémon: Lets Go Pikachu coming later this year, alongside a core RPG for the franchise coming next year, this new competitive ruleset is sure to keep the franchise exciting.
