Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct Incoming August 8th

The Nintendo Versus official Twitter account has revealed that a new Super Smash Bros. Direct will be held on August 8th, 7 am PT. This Direct will follow up the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate focused presentation during E3 2018, earlier this year. According to the Tweet, game director Masahiro Sakurai will be delivering the news himself. There was no mention of how long the Direct will be, but past Super Smash Bros. Directs have been of considerable length.

As for what to expect from this Direct, that is a little difficult. The E3 presentation revealed a lot of information, that any more would seem redundant. We already know that every character in the history of the franchise is returning. Sakurai also detailed many of the gameplay changes and balance updates that differentiates Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from previous entries. The first thing that comes to mind is the reveal of a new character. While Sakurai has said not to expect too many newcomers, there should be a couple of new characters to round off the roster.

A great addition would be a new adventure mode like Subspace Emissary from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. While not perfect, it did offer a wealth of single-player content with some awesome cutscenes. The mode was cut from the Wii U version due to fears of the cutscenes being leaked online. Hopefully, enough time has passed for Nintendo to reconsider adding a story mode to Super Smash Bros. It would be something that both fans and new players would appreciate having.

Whatever ends up being shown off, the game is shaping up quite well. It seems to bring together the best elements of the previous entries, while also adding new features for everyone to enjoy. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is scheduled for a 2018 release for the Nintendo Switch.
