Sucker Punch Productions just shipped Ghost of Tsushima back in July, but the Bellevue-based studio could already be hiring for a sequel, if a recent job posting is any indication.
The Sucker Punch jobs website currently has an opening for a narrative writer who would be responsible for “developing open-world stories” for the studio. Additionally, all candidates need to have a “desire to write stories set in feudal Japan,” and “knowledge of feudal Japanese history” is seen as a plus for consideration. The posting makes no mention of a specific project that the hire would be working on, but it seems very likely that Sucker Punch is building a team to develop a follow-up to its open-world samurai game.
Such a move would certainly make sense, as Ghost of Tsushima has already become a massive success. July’s NPD sales numbers mentioned that the game was the fifth best-selling title in the United States at the time, and within a week of its release, it became Sony’s fastest-selling new IP launch on PS4.
Ghost of Tsushima recently got a free content update which included a New Game Plus mode and Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, an online cooperative mode for two to four players. Two-player parties can team up to complete story-based missions, while four-player teams can battle waves of enemies inspired by Japanese folklore. When the PS5 launches next month, those who play the game on Sony’s new console will benefit from a new 60FPS option and even shorter load times.
