Ghost of Tsushima Revealed at Paris Games Week

The studio behind the Infamous franchise is back, this time with an action-adventure Samurai game entitled Ghost of Tsushima. This new IP from Sucker Punch Productions was announced during Sony’s showcase at Paris Games Week, and the cinematic trailer shows off some gorgeous shots in 4k.

Ghost of Tsushima is an open-world, action adventure game set in Tsushima, Japan in 1274. We will play as a Samurai, who is tasked with defending Tsushima against the invasion of The Mongol Empire. The Mongol Empire. The trailer gives us a glimpse into the dangerous life of the Samurais during this period, along with some quick action sequences that are interspersed with quieter moments. The trailer lets us know the stakes for defending the country are high, and we even hear a voice say, “You’ve trained your whole life for this.” Check out the official description of the game below:

The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan–until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But, honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting–the way of the Ghost–as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.

We haven’t heard much from Sucker Punch since the release of Infamous Second Son in early 2014 and its standalone title, Infamous First Light, later that same year. Ghost of Tsushima will be an interesting departure for the studio, because while Sucker Punch has succeeded in creating high-action, open world games, now the developer will have significantly more historical facts to incorporate into its game.

This first look at Ghost of Tsushima looks promising, and we’ll keep you up to date with all news about it. There isn’t a release date or window for the the game yet. Seeing how Sucker Punch is a first party developer for Sony, we can expect it to release exclusively for PlayStation consoles.
