Star Wars: Squadrons Officially Revealed

After being announced last week, EA officially revealed Star Wars: Squadrons today. The game will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC (through Origin, Steam, and Epic Game Store) when it releases this year on October 2.

A cinematic trailer for the game revealed that the game is going to take place after Return of the Jedi. The story will put you in the cockpit of two different characters: a Rebel pilot from the Vanguard Squadron and an Imperial pilot from the Titan Squadron. Throughout the story, players will be interacting with characters that are new to the Star Wars universe, in addition to classic characters that will make cameo appearances.

Squadrons also has a multiplayer component in which players will partake in 5v5 multiplayer matches. Two different game modes were announced for the multiplayer. Dogfight asks players to destroy as many of their opponents as they can, whereas Fleet Battles requires each team to destroy their opponents flagship. There will be both old and new places in the universe where players will be able to fight each other, with Yavin Prime and the shattered moon of Galitan being the only ones announced so far.

Players will be able to earn upgrades for their ship as well as cosmetic customization options. These unlocks will be earned solely through playing the game. Ship upgrades include weapons, hulls, engines, and shields to customize your ship’s performance. The cosmetic options are for your cockpit, ship exterior, and pilot appearance.

Star Wars Squadrons will support cross-play for multiplayer, and VR for PS4 and PC. Notably, the game will only cost $39.99 when it releases. Today’s reveal did not give us a look at any gameplay, but that will be coming this Thursday, June 18 during EA Play Live which starts at 4PM PT/7PM ET.
