Psychonauts 2 Gets a Psychedelic New Trailer

Double Fine Productions revealed a brand new look at their upcoming game, Psychonauts 2, during today’s Xbox Games Showcase. If this trailer is anything to go by, the game is going to have some really out of this world visuals.

The trailer showed main character Raz travel into someone else’s brain where a concert was happening with a lot of very colorful attendees. Throughout the trailer, we see Raz do some basic platforming and use abilities such as slowing down time to traverse the world and fight enemies. This trailer also reveals that Jack Black is a part of the game’s cast. He plays the voice inside the brain that Raz traveled into, and sings the song that’s playing the background of the trailer. This isn’t Jack Black’s first time working with Double Fine, as he did voice roles for Brutal Legend and Broken Age.

Psychonauts 2 was first announced during The Game Awards in 2015 with a crowd funding campaign and has been on a long road to release. After its announcement, a VR game in the franchise called Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin that bridges the gap between Psychonauts 1 and 2 was announced for PSVR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift. That game was released in 2017 for PS4 and in 2018 for PC. The first gameplay for Psychonauts 2 was revealed at The Game Awards in 2018. Last year at E3, Microsoft announced their acquisition of Double Fine Productions, adding them to the list of their many new first-party studios.

No release information was shown during the event, but a post on the Xbox Wire blog says that the game will be releasing next year on Xbox Game Pass, Windows PC, Mac, Linux, and PS4. The game will also be optimized for Xbox Series X upon its release next year.
