Avowed is a New RPG From Obsidian Entertainment

Obsidian Entertainment announced their new title, Avowed, during today’s Xbox Games Showcase. The game will be an RPG and is set in the world of their other series, Pillars of Eternity. A short trailer was shown during the event, in which the camera followed a flaming arrow as it was fired through a skeleton soldier and into a deep cavern. From there, the trailer went into a first-person perspective as the character pulled out a sword with glowing runes and drew a magic symbol with their hand to prepare a spell while an unseen creature approached.

Avowed being a first-person game is noteworthy, as the Pillars of Eternity games are typically played from an isometric perspective. The trailer unfortunately didn’t give any concrete details as to what the story will be about.

Avowed will be the third game from Obsidian Entertainment since they were purchased by Microsoft a few years ago. Last year they released the space-RPG, The Outer Worlds, to critical acclaim. That game had its first DLC expansion revealed during the showcase as well, called Peril on Gorgon. It will be releasing on September 9 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Their next title is Grounded, a survival game where you play as a kid that’s shrunk down to the size of an insect. That game enters Early Access later this month on July 28 for Xbox One and PC, with a full release set for some time next year.

Microsoft showed off a number of different games during their Xbox Games Showcase today, including State of Decay 3, Psychonauts 2, a new Fable, and the first gameplay of the much anticipated Halo Infinite. As for Avowed, the game doesn’t have a release window, but it will be coming to Xbox Series X and PC whenever it does finally release.
