Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Announced for Switch

In a surprise Direct, Nintendo has announced that two more mainstream Pokemon RPGs, namely Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield will be released this year for the Nintendo Switch.

In a seven-minute live stream video on the official Nintendo YouTube channel, Nintendo showed three new starter Pokemon, a brand new region, and engine footage of the 8th generation of Pokemon games. The starters names are: Grookey the curious grass type monkey Pokemon, Scorbunny an energetic fire type rabbit Pokemon and Sobble the shy water type lizard Pokemon

Throughout the course of this new game you will be exploring the Galar region. This new region looks to be based off England, just like the Kalos region in Pokemon X and Y was modelled after France.

Based on from the description on Nintendo’s website: “You’ll visit the various Gyms in the Galar region, aiming for the enviable and admirable title of Champion!” this generation will revert back to the standard gym badge system, leading up to a Pokemon league instead of Island challenges like in Sun and Moon.

Both Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield will be released simultaneously, worldwide in late 2019. You can watch the full announcement for the games below:
