PlayStation Plus Games for January 2021 Revealed

Sony has announced the lineup of PlayStation Plus games for January via a post on the PlayStation Blog. Subscribers will get two PS4 games and one PS5 game in what amounts to a pretty good selection to ring in the new year.

Those lucky enough to own a PS5 will get to play Tripwire Interactive’s Maneater, the self-described open-world “ShaRkPG” where players control and evolve a massive shark. It’s worth noting that despite Maneater being a cross-generation title, the PlayStation Plus benefit does not apply to the PS4 version of the game.

The first PS4 game on offer will be Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the latest entry in Lara Croft’s action-adventure franchise. This third iteration of the reboot that began in 2013 was developed by Eidos-Montréal as opposed to Crystal Dynamics, but it was still received rather favorably by critics.

And finally, the second game for PS4 owners is GreedFall, the action RPG from French developer Spiders. The game’s Metacritic page paints the picture of a pretty average experience, but several reviews praise the game’s colonial setting and deep dialog system. The PlayStation blog post notes that this game will be replaced by Assetto Corsa in the Middle East and Mistover in Japan and South Korea.

These games will be available for PlayStation Plus subscribers from Tuesday, January 5 through Monday, February 1. As always, it’s a good idea to redeem the games on your PS Plus account through your console, web browser, or PlayStation mobile app, even if you don’t plan on playing them right away.

PlayStation Plus has proven to be a great value for PlayStation gamers and that trend is continuing at the beginning of the PS5 era. PS Plus subscribers who own Sony’s new console have access to the PlayStation Plus Collection, which includes 20 highly-acclaimed PS4 games. Additionally, beginning in February 2021, vehicular arena battler Destruction AllStars will be included in the service for two months from its initial release.
