Here are Some of the Digital Conferences Happening in Place of E3 2020
Since E3 2020 was canceled, several developers, publishers, and even independent media personalities, have announced the dates for their own digital conferences this summer, in place of having a traditional event in Los Angeles. Here’s everything that’s been announced so far, along with some developers that won’t be hosting an event at all.
The Guerrilla Collective:
This partnership is a three-day digital event that starts on June 6, and will feature news and announcements from developers such as Paradox Interactive, Versus Evil, Coffee Stain Studios and more. The event will take place on June 6 at 10am PT/ 1pm ET, and will be hosted by Greg Miller from Kinda Funny.
Following the Guerrilla Collective that same day will be Paradox Insider, the PC Gaming Show 2020, and the Future Games Show.
Summer Game Fest
Summer Game Fest is hosted by games industry veteran and Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley. It’s a months-long event that aims to bring the community together for a season of news, in-game events, announcements, and more. Keighley recently sat down with some of the devs from Epic Games to discuss the reveal of Unreal Engine 5 and the next generation of games.
Summer Game Fest will run from May to August.
CD Projekt Red – Night City Wire, Thursday June 11
Developer CD Projekt Red announced the “Night City Wire” event for June 11, the name being a smooth nod to the Night City setting of the game. During this stream, we’re hoping to see more gameplay and news for Cyberpunk 2077, which will give us another major look at the game before its September 17 release.
EA – EA Play 2020, Thursday June 12
EA is carrying on with its digital EA Play event, hosting it pretty close to the date it’d be having its usual E3 stream. EA has opted out of having a physical presence at E3 for a few years now, so fans aren’t in for too much of a shakeup with its digital EA Play event taking place on June 12th at 4pm PT / 7pm ET.
Ubisoft – Ubisoft Forward, Sunday July 12
Ubisoft was among the first companies to reveal that it would be hosting a digital event this summer in the wake of E3’s cancellation, and this week we finally got more details about it. Ubisoft will be hosting an event called Ubisoft Forward, which will take place on Sunday, July 12. More details will be coming soon, but those are the basics we have right now. During this event, we’re expecting to see even more of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and hopefully some more news about Ubisoft’s other upcoming titles like Watch Dogs Legion and Beyond Good and Evil 2, the latter of which has been pretty sparse on the details.
Bethesda
Although Pete Hines announced via Twitter that Bethesda still has “lots of exciting things to share about our games,” the studio will not be holding a digital showcase this June due to the challenges presented by the pandemic. There will, however, be more information in the coming months. Recently, we also learned that the Elder Scrolls VI, which was shown at Bethesda’s E3 2018 conference, is still many years away from release.
Devolver Digital
Devolver Digital was the first publisher to break the news that E3 2020 would be canceled.
Following the official news of the canceled expo, Devolver Digital announced its plans for a “livestream Devolver Direct/press conference.” We don’t have any additional information about a date or time, but will update here once it’s announced.
The Big Three – Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft
Shortly after the ESA canceled E3 2020, Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced that the Xbox team would be hosting its own digital event some time this summer, but we don’t have any updated information about the date or time. Xbox recently held an Inside Xbox stream, where they showcased upcoming titles from its third-party developers. One new IP in particular, a psychological horror game called The Medium, looks like one we’d like to keep on our radar.
Sony, on the other hand, is rumored to be hosting a big event some time around June 5th, where it will finally (hopefully?) reveal the details we’ve been craving about the PlayStation 5; and according to a report about Nintendo, it looks like fans will not be seeing a Nintendo Direct this June, due to schedule setbacks caused by the pandemic.
