EA is Skipping E3 This Year, Will Focus on EA Play

Just a couple months ago, Sony made a surprise announcement that it will not hold a press conference during E3 2019. Now, EA is following suit, becoming the latest company to forgo the annual expo, at least in the traditional sense. Though EA is skipping its press conference, unlike Sony, the company will still have a presence in L.A. this June.

EA stated in a blog post yesterday that it won’t be holding a press conference in favor of focusing on EA Play this year, with a fanfest event that will be held from June 7th to 9th at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. The event will feature multiple livesreams, exclusive gameplay reveals, and will offer hands-on time with some of EA’s biggest titles; and the great news is it’s completely free.

EA will also have content creators streaming from its “Creators Cave” in the Palladium to provide gameplay content for people watching online.

Anthem

According to EA, “this year you’ll see less talk and more play, with an event entirely focused on the heartbeat of EA Play: our player communities and the games they love.”

Last year, EA’s E3 show received mixed reactions, especially following the announcement that Battlefield V would be getting a battle royale mode, and considering they showed off games we already knew were in development at the time, like Anthem and Unravel 2. During its EA Play event this year, I’m sure we’ll be seeing another FIFA, Madden, and some updates for Anthem, but it will be interesting if the company surprises us with a new IP.

Tickets for the EA Play fanfest will be available next month. E3 2019 will run from Tuesday June 11th to Thursday June 13th.
