E3 2021: Sea of Thieves Is Adding Jack Sparrow This Month
Sea of Thieves is getting a huge update later this month with Jack Sparrow and other characters from Pirates of the Caribbean joining the game. The update will be free for all Sea of Thieves players when it releases on June 22, kicking off the game’s third season.
Announced during today’s Microsoft+Bethesda showcase, the crossover is called Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life. It’s a new campaign that takes place across five new tales and is filled with new secrets and side quests that can be completed either solo or with friends. The story has players working to free jack Sparrow from a prison that he’s in and stop the infamous pirate Davy Jones. Throughout the journey, players will come across different iconic locations from both franchises, including some of the Disney park attractions.
A blog post on Xbox Wire reveals some more information about this unexpected crossover. Sea of Thieves Creative Director Mike Chapman spoke about how this collaboration has allowed them to get at the heart of “what it truly means to be a pirate on the Sea of Thieves” as well as the meaning behind the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.”This story moves the Sea of Thieves world forwards in unexpected ways, and it’s been a joy to bring these two worlds together, treating both in a way that feels authentic and delightful to experience.”
This announcement for Sea of Thieves was a big one in a showcase filled with big announcements. Microsoft started their show with a look at Bethesda’s new IP Starfield, showed off the multiplayer for this year’s Halo Infinite, and announced that The Outer Worlds 2 is in development. We also got the announcement of the gorgeous racer Forza Horizon 5, the reveal of A Plague Tale: Requiem which is coming in 2022, and an extended look at S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2.
