E3 2021: Apocalyptic Game Somerville Announced for 2022

There were several, quick teasers during the Xbox E3 showcase, and one that stood out was the new look at JUMPSHIP’s IP Somerville.

Somerville comes from the creators of the popular platformers Inside and Limbo, and the game was actually revealed back in 2017 and then shown again in the summer of 2018. We now have our third look at the game from the Xbox event today, and still looks eerie and mysterious enough to have us intrigued.

Visually (and unsurprisingly), the game shares a familiar look and style to Inside and Limbo, with its dark environments, shadows, bursts of color and various light sources. Somerville boasts a small cast of characters- only a married couple, their child, and a dog- and we get several shots of a ruined world that seems completely void of other people. The game has a linear look to it but doesn’t appear to be a platformer in the traditional sense. According the description from JUMPSHIP, the world has suffered a catastrophe, and players must “find the means to make your family whole again.” The game is described as a sci-fi adventure that is “grounded in the intimate repercussions of a large scale conflict.”

Somerville has a release window of summer 2022 and will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
