Crash Bandicoot 4 Reveals New Mode and Character

Sony held a new State of Play and kicked off the show with a new look at Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, announcing new characters and a new game mode. In this new game, players will be able to play as Coco for the entire game. She’s not the only new playable character that fans will be able to get their hands on though. At certain points in the story, Neo Cortex and Dingodile will be playable.

The newly announced game mode is N. Verted mode, and it was made in collaboration with Beenox. When playing in N. Verted mode, the stages are mirrored and take on a brand new art style that’s unique to each area, causing them to look and play differently. In the presentation, one area was completely white and became covered in paint whenever Crash spun around. Another area had a vintage movie effect, causing the movement of objects in the level to be greatly increased. Once N. Verted mode is unlocked, every level in the game can be played in the mode.

Also detailed were the new masks that are being added to the game. Three masks were shown and they each have a different effect, such as slowing down time, flipping gravity, or phase shifting objects in and out of existence. There will also be new costume skins to unlock in the game. They are purely a cosmetic item and are not acquired through micro-transactions. Each skin is earned by completing challenges and collecting gems in levels.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time looks like a lot of fun with the new additions that developer Toys For Bob are bringing to the table. We won’t have to wait long to see just how fun it is, as the game releases in a few months on October 2.
