Rocksteady Teases Reveal of Its Suicide Squad Game

The rumors were true: Rocksteady Studios is working on Suicide Squad game. The London, UK-based developer of the Batman: Arkham series made the confirmation on Twitter and teased a reveal during the DC FanDome stream on August 22. Industry events have come and gone for years without an announcement from the studio, but it looks like Sefton Hill and Co. are finally ready to show their creation to the world.

According to the same rumor from Eurogamer, Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad game will be featured alongside a new Batman game from WB Games Montreal. That particular project has been hinted at since September 2019 and is rumored to focus on the Court of Owls criminal organization.

Gamers have long been curious as to what Rocksteady has been working on. The studio’s last major release was 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight, though it did release Batman: Arkham VR a year later. There was some hope that the studio was developing a game with a brand-new IP, but the decision to stay in the DC Comics universe isn’t too surprising. All three of Rocksteady’s entries in the Batman: Arkham series were very well-received and Batman: Arkham City apparently sold over 12.5 million copies on its own.

Rocksteady’s tweet doesn’t reveal anything about its Suicide Squad game other than an appearance from Superman/Bizarro, so we’ll have to wait until DC FanDome to learn more. It seems likely that the game will release on the next-generation consoles, but whether it is a traditional single-player or Avengers-style live service game remains to be seen.
