The Fallout Twitter account officially name-dropped the map of West Virginia that players will soon be exploring when Fallout 76 releases later this year. When players emerge from Vault 76, the region of Appalachia and its many dangers will be at their fingertips.
The tweet then jokingly references the Commonwealth from Fallout 4 and Capital Wasteland from Fallout 3, mentioning Appalachia will differ from both of them starting with the item Guitar Sword.
The map name makes perfect sense, given that Fallout 76 will be taking place in West Virginia. You, along with other Vault Dwellers, will emerge on Reclamation Day 2102 into the ruins of a post-nuclear America; and from the details Todd Howard has already mentioned, namely during Bethesda’s E3 2018 showcase, there will be a lot of this post-nuclear environment to explore. The Appalachian map, to the surprise of many, is four times larger than that of Fallout 4.
For the unfamiliar, the Appalachia region of the United States covers a large stretch of land that extends from the bottom half New York state, to the tip of Alabama. It’s a fairly mountainous region (widely known for the hiking path along the Appalachian Trail), and West Virginia is directly in the middle of it.
Fallout 76 is currently available for pre-order, and those who purchase now will be able to take part in the B.E.T.A (Break-It Early Test Application) beginning in October. Find out more information about the B.E.T.A and how to register here. The full game launches on November 14, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
