6 Horror Games to Have on Your Radar This Summer

There are plenty of major games that have come out or will come out in the next few weeks to keep players busy for a while. From the recent release of The Last of Us Part II, to Ghost of Tsushima in July, and then Cyberpunk late this fall, there’s a lot to look forward to. However, one genre that doesn’t seem to be getting as much attention for anticipated, upcoming releases is horror.

Below is a small list of intriguing horror titles that either have release dates, or release windows of Summer 2020 that we think you should have on your radar.

Remothered: Broken Porcelain
Developer: Stomind Games

Remothered: Broken Porcelain is a sequel to Remothered: Tormented Fathers, and it looks terrifying. In this survival horror, we’ll play as Jen, a young girl who has been expelled from an all-girls boarding school and took up a position as a maid at Ashmann Inn. Soon Jen, along with a fellow maid named Linn, begin to experience strange and unsettling occurrences in the inn, and a dark presence lurking through its halls. In addition to the real-time cinematics, developer Stormind Games notes that some of the features will include challenging puzzles and stealth gameplay.

Remothered: Broken Porcelain will release on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch on August 25, 2020.

The Last of Us Part II
Developer: Naughty Dog
Platforms: PS4, PS4 Pro

Here’s a game that doesn’t need any introduction. The Last of Us Part II is Naughty Dog’s follow up to its post-apocalyptic hit The Last of Us (2013). Part II picks up five years after the events of the first game and chronicles Ellie’s journey of loss and revenge after a brutal event. While The Last of Us Part II isn’t necessarily “scary”, there are a few standout moments, most notably in some underground tunnels and flooded buildings, that can put serious goosebumps on your arms. The sound design also gets under your skin, making it feel as though enemies are right next to you, when they’re actually far away.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope
Developer: Supermassive Games

Supermassive Games is no stranger to horror games. The developer caught our attention a few years ago with the release of Until Dawn on PS4, which released right in time for Halloween and featured a group of young adults snowed in a cabin and its surrounding area.

Little Hope is the next installment in the developer’s latest project, The Dark Pictures Anthology, which started in 2019 with its first game, Man of Medan. Little Hope follows four college students and their professor, who are stranded by fog in the titular town of Little Hope. Together, they must find a way to escape the town, while they are each haunted by visions of its past. Similar to Man of Medan, Little Hope will feature choice-based gameplay.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope is scheduled for a Sumer 2020 release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

System Shock Redux
Developer: Nightdive Studios

The development of System Shock Remastered has had its share of ups and downs over the last couple of years. In 2018, Steven Kick, CEO of Nightdive Studios, announced in a Kickstarter post that the vision of the game began to change over time, and that he put the team “on a hiatus” to reassess the path. Following that, the game was pushed to a 2020 release window. Updates about the game have been pretty quiet over the last couple of years, but just a few weeks ago Nightdive Studio developers released a developer commentary video, discussing the Alpha Demo.

For fans who’ve been waiting to get their hands on the game, there is a PC demo currently available for download.

Maid of Sker
Developer: Wales Interactive

Maid of Sker is a first-person survival horror game inspired by Welsh folklore. Set in 1898, in a remote hotel, the game is described as the “story of a family empire driven by torture, slavery, piracy, and a supernatural mystery that suffocated the grounds of the hotel.” Maid of Sker will use a stealth-based form of gameplay, with a sound-based AI system that will really test players’ survival capabilities and strategies. The game’s writing talents include the developers behind games like Soma, Amnesia: Rebirth, and Battlefield 1.

Maid of Sker has a release window of June 2020 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One. The game will release later this year on Nintendo Switch.

Othercide
Developer: Lightbulb Crew

For players who are fans of tactical combat, Othercide is for you. The game is a tactical, turn-based horror title, in which players will have to lead an army into a battle against Suffering. Based on the trailers, the game looks to blend tactical RPG elements with dark environmental designs and an ethereal soundtrack. Othercide will release on July 28th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will be available on Nintendo Switch later this summer.
