Survival Horror Game Maid of Sker Announced, Coming 2019

Maid of Sker is a new survival horror game on the horizon, and it’s coming from UK-based developer Wales Interactive. The developer revealed the official teaser trailer just a couple days ago on its YouTube channel. Inspired by Welsh folklore, Maid of Sker is set in the late 19th century and takes place in a secluded hotel. Players are invited to brave the nightmares of “the Quiet Men” and are advised not to “panic” when they arrive.

If that isn’t unsettling enough, the game is based on the actual story of Elizabeth Williams and the mythology surrounding the real Sker House in Brigend County Borough, South Wales. Legend has it that Williams’ ghost, along with the ghost of a shipwrecked captain currently haunt the house. Williams, as the story goes, was locked away in a closet by her father so she couldn’t run off with her lover, and she soon died of a broken heart. In the game, we’ll play as Thomas Evans, a musician who makes a dangerous attempt to save the woman he loves.

Wales Interactive describes Maid of Sker as a first-person stealth survival horror game, with a multi-layered narrative where decisions matter and where there is possibility for multiple outcomes. The gamplay is primarily driven by exploration and a no-weapon survival mechanic that we’ve seen popularized in horror games in recent years. Players will employ “hide, run, creep, trap and distract” techniques to survive against enemies that have supreme hearing. As the game progresses, these enemies become increasingly difficult to avoid. So difficult, in fact, standing still and holding your breath may be the only method of survival.

Maid of Sker will be releasing sometime in Q3 (July-September) for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Check out the full teaser trailer below.
