Sony Celebrating PlayStation Lifetime Sales with New PS4 Pro
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has announced that it will release a Limited Edition PS4 Pro to commemorate the sale of over 500 million PlayStation systems worldwide since 1994. The 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro will available on August 24th in the US and Canada for $499 USD and $639 CAD, and is strictly limited to 50,000 units worldwide. It features a translucent blue shell with copper accents, and each console will feature a “commemorative copper plate on its front, with its limited edition serial number etched on.”
The console will be packaged alongside a matching DualShock 4 controller, PlayStation Camera, vertical stand, and mono headset. This particular version of the PS4 Pro also comes with a 2TB hard drive, which is the largest stock hard drive ever released with a PS4.
With the console being limited to 50,000 units, it is sure to be a hot ticket item for diehard PlayStation fans and collectors. Sony previously released a 20th anniversary PS4 console that was sold through the Sony Store website and in-person at PlayStation Experience 2014, and it sold out almost instantly. It hasn’t been announced where the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro will be sold, so if you plan to try to get one, keep an eye on the console’s official product page for additional information.
It was reported last week that Sony has shipped 82.2 million PS4s worldwide, and that it expects PS4 to outsell PS3’s lifetime sales by the end of the year. That will make Sony’s newest console the second most successful PlayStation console behind the PS2, which surpassed 150 million units during its time on the market.
