Xbox Cloud Gaming Beta Coming To iOS And PC Tomorrow

Microsoft is one step closer to getting their cloud gaming service xCloud (now referred to as Xbox Cloud Gaming) fully launched on iOS devices and PC. The company announced that starting tomorrow, they will be sending invites out to certain Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to try out the cloud streaming beta on the new platforms through their web browsers.

All you have to do is go to xbox.com/play on any of the supported browsers (Edge, Google Chrome, and Safari), and you’ll be able to play more than 100 Xbox Game pass titles. This invitation only beta is a chance for the company to “test and learn,” so they’ll be sending out more invites over to time players in all regions that support Xbox Cloud Gaming. They also intend to add support for more devices as well as take feedback on improving the service, with the plan being to “iterate quickly” and open up the service to all Game Pass Ultimate members in the coming months. For the beginning stages of the beta, Microsoft’s focus is to fine tune different features and offer a “consistent experience across platforms,” all while making sure that the games play the best that they can.

We first heard that Microsoft was planning to bring their Xbox Cloud Gaming service to PC and iOS sometime this Spring late last year. The use of a web browser instead of a dedicated app for streaming is due to the policies that Apple has in place for the iOS App Store regarding game streaming services. A browser based solution, while not ideal, is a workaround that Apple has no problem with and will allow iOS users to stream their Xbox games while on the go.

Recently, backwards compatible games were added to the service. With more devices becoming available to stream on, gamers now have even more places to play some of their favorite games, and that’s something we can all celebrate.
