Undertale is Finally Coming to Nintendo Switch, Collector’s Edition Announced

A recent announcement from Undertale’s creator, Toby Fox, finally confirmed a September 2018 release date for the critically acclaimed indie RPG. Upon the launch of the Switch, Nintendo made a commitment to bring a plethora of indie titles to the system. And while Nintendo has had a reputation of not working with many third-party developers in the past — circa Wii U era —the company has lived up to its promise of creating a large library of indie titles.

Thus, it was no surprise when Nintendo announced during its March Direct that Undertale, one of the foremost indie darlings, would be coming to the Switch. While we have not heard much about the game’s release following this Direct, Fox’s announcement gives us something to look forward to.

In addition to a digital release on the Nintendo eShop, fans can purchase a physical Collector’s Edition through Fangamer. This Collector’s Edition, which will retail for $69 USD, includes a hard copy of the game, story booklet, soundtrack, sheet music, 14K gold-plated music box locket, and collector’s box with slipcase.

Undertale was first released in 2015 on PC after a successful Kickstarter and years of development from the game’s sole creator and composer, Toby Fox. Since its initial release, the game has received wide critical acclaim for its immaculate storytelling, self-aware writing, and engaging combat system. Presented in a surreal, 8-bit inspired world, the game is reminiscent of the cult-classic Nintendo RPG, Earthbound – drawing from the classic’s wit and world-building and placing it in a modern context that is altogether charming, humorous, and engrossing.

While we can’t wait to get our hands on this upcoming release, this announcement is a great sign that Nintendo will build on its commitment to bring indie favorites to the Nintendo Switch.

Pre-orders for the Collector’s Edition are currently available on Fangamer for the game’s release next month.
