Ubisoft at E3 2017: Expectations

E3 is almost upon us, and Ubisoft is set to take the stage on Monday, June 12th at 1pm PT with some hugely anticipated titles. Here’s what we can expect from the conference:

 I’ve never seen a friendlier-looking group of people.

Talk about a show-stopper. I am personally looking forward to anything and everything Ubisoft will say about Far Cry 5. Ubisoft Montreal unveiled the title at the end of May, first with a teaser trailer and then with a full-blown story reveal, along with three different character trailers.

Far Cry has been a long running series (I mean, you don’t get to five games overnight, obviously), but I’m excited because this will be the first time the series will be set in America. Montana, to be exact. Players will have the option to explore the world alone, or in a two player co-op campaign. Far Cry 5 isn’t due for release until February 27, 2018, but pre-orders are already happening. I will more than likely make the pre-order leap after I see more of the game at E3.

Ubisoft took a noticeable, year-long break from releasing any new games in the series; and instead, we got that Assassin’s Creed movie that I just like to pretend never happened. Let’s call it The Movie That Shall Not Be Named.

Now Ubisoft is finally returning to the world of the assassins with another major installment that is rumored to be called Assassin’s Creed: Origins. In the case of this new game, it may be safe to say the rumors are actually true, because this is one title that refuses to stay under wraps. From Reddit posts, to screenshots, to leaks about being able to remove your assassin hood, to leaks about no more ‘leaps of faith’ (I’m actually not upset by this at all), we are getting more leaks than we can handle. It is also strongly rumored the game will take place in ancient Egypt. I’ve always wanted to see the pyramids…

Ubisoft has already confirmed a new Assassin’s Creed game will be revealed at E3, but I bet both my consoles we will see a complete story trailer, some gameplay, and all the new improvements that have been made to the series that will put the rumors to rest. We haven’t seen a new AC game on the E3 stage in over a year, and I think Ubisoft will take that moment on the 12th to really go all out.

The Crew was an underwhelming experience at best. A forgettable one at worst. Yes, I am just as surprised as you there is a second one on the way; and, no, I don’t have any expectations. Do I sound bitter? I think I sound bitter…

This was first announced at Ubisoft’s showcase last year, and was supposed to be out at the end of 2016 but has been pushed back until fall of this year. Here’s the reason according to Ubisoft’s blog:

“The development teams wants to make sure the game experience meets the high expectations of fans and the additional time will help them achieve this goal.”

 It will be interesting to see any new information about The Fractured But Whole

This statement comes straight from the How to Tell Your Fans the Game is Delayed 101. Nothing new there. Unfortunately, now you’ll have to wait until October to get your super-hero themed South Park fix. For that reason, I’m expecting to see The Fractured But Whole on the Ubisoft’s E3 stage for some more fleshed out story details and maybe even some gameplay.

At this point, what’s a Ubisoft E3 showcase without Just Dance? It’s basically the equivalent of peanut butter without jelly. If you’re allergic to peanut butter, forget I used that analogy. I’m expecting to see Just Dance 2018 on the stage, but if I don’t, I promise you I won’t lose sleep over it. Especially if the performance is anywhere near as awkward as Jason Derulo’s a couple years ago.

Okay. Hear me out.

The last update to hit Watch Dogs 2 came in at a hefty 10GB on consoles (in theory, that’s not too bad, but I’m running out of storage), and that update gave us an extended ending of the game. The new ending includes a recorded message with a file entitled 51.462014, -0.112504.wav. For those who are not geographically inclined (I’m looking at you, mom), those are coordinates that point directly to the center of London.

Since I have a degree in jumping to conclusions, it’s highly possible London could be the setting of a new Watch Dogs game. One thing is for certain: no setting will be worst than the injustice Ubisoft showed Chicago in the first game. Also, we are almost due for another one in 2018, seeing how the first Watch Dogs released in 2014, and the second followed two years later in 2016.

If Watch Dogs 3 is even slightly in development, we could see anything from the new setting with the Watch Dog logo, or a teaser trailer that’s simply overlayed with the new protagonist’s voice.
