Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Is Borderlands Meets Fantasy

Today Gearbox announced Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands a brand new fantasy based Borderlands spin-off starring none other than the eccentric Tiny Tina, and it’s coming early next year to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It’s a completely standalone experience that features a brand new cast of characters and world, and gameplay mechanics that make it stand apart from its parent series.

“In this epic high fantasy take on the looter shooter genre, players can create and customize their own multiclass heroes as they loot, shoot, slash, and cast their way through outlandish monsters and treasure-filled dungeons on a quest to stop the tyrannical Dragon Lord,” reads the press release. “Bullets, magic, and broadswords collide across a chaotic fantasy world brought to life by the utterly unpredictable Tiny Tina, who makes the rules, changes the world on the fly, and guides players on their journey.”

With a new set of characters comes new voice actors, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands has some strong ones. Andy Samberg, Wanda Sykes, and Will Arnett all lend their vocal talents to the game, while Ashley Burch returns to voice the titular character Tiny Tina. Four player co-op remains and the game will also have plenty of replayable end game content.

According to Gearbox Entertainment Founder Randy Pitchford, the new game is something the company has been building to for some time now. “Wonderlands is a culmination of over a decade of on-and-off development at Gearbox Software towards a Role-Playing Shooter set in a fantasy universe. For me, bringing actual Borderlands® guns to fight dragons, skeletons, goblins, and more in an original fantasy world imagined by the galaxy’s deadliest thirteen-year-old, Tiny Tina, as a new, full-featured AAA video game is a dream come true.”

Borderlands 2 fans may recall the popular Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep DLC that game had. It had the characters of the game playing a game of D&D with Tiny Tina as the Dungeon Master who was constantly changing things at a moment’s notice. The DLC was very good, so if this new game is that, but expanded into a full game, you can count me in.

This wasn’t the only big announcement that came today. We also got the re-reveal of From Software’s Elden Ring that brought with it a release date for highly anticipated title.
