The Walking Dead: The Final Season Questions Answered in Reddit AMA

Earlier today, Skybound Games’ CEO Ian Howe and The Walking Dead: The Final Season’s creative director Kent Mudle took to Reddit for an Ask Me Anything (AMA) regarding the fate of The Final Season. The AMA comes in the wake of Telltale Games’ sudden closure and mass layoffs, and following the announcement that Skybound Games would be stepping in to finish The Final Season.

One of the most pressing questions asked concerned the release dates for the third and fourth episodes of The Final Season. To that, Howe responded and said he’s unable to give a definitive answer at the moment, but can tell fans the development team is “not currently working on the game and until we’re back into production, it’s going to be nearly impossible to give an accurate answer.” Howe did say, however, that he will be able to reveal the dates “as soon as we know what they are” and that he expects the third episode to release before the end of the year.

One Redditor asked how many developers from Telltale would Skybound be hiring to finish the game. To that, Howe explained the differences in location are the main challenge right now, as Skybound Games is in L.A. and Telltale is in San Rafael in the Bay Area. Howe assured that one way or another, they’ll “find a place for the team to work that’s practical for them”, and that the main focus is the finish the story of The Final Season.

While Howe went on to answer more of the logistics during the AMA, Mudle took the opportunity to address questions related to story details revealed up through the second episode of The Final Season. When asked about the significance of the season’s setting- a boarding school for troubled youth- Mudle explained that Telltale liked the setting because not only was it visually different than anything they’d done, but Clem gets to be among people her own age and have “an equal footing in a group for once.” Other reasons included having a group of children who hadn’t yet been affected by infighting and the power struggles that move through adult groups.

At one point during the AMA, Howe said that Skybound has a long to do list, but one of the priorities was getting everything, including players’ choices from The Final Season back online “ASAP.” You can read the full Reddit AMA here.
