Nearly 20 years after it first began, the Kingdom Hearts series is finally coming to PC next month. On March 30th, the entire series will be available exclusively on the Epic Games Store. It’s currently unknown whether or not the series will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store for a limited period of time, so PC players that prefer to use Steam may be waiting a long time for the game to come to their platform.
For those who may not know what the Kingdom Hearts series is about, it follows a young boy named Sora who travels between multiple different worlds on a journey to protect them all from the forces of Darkness and put a stop to the plans of Master Xehanort, the series’ main antagonist. Along the way, he interacts with a number of different Disney and Final Fantasy characters to help keep their worlds safe from Master Xehanort and his allies.
With the series coming to PC, this leaves the Nintendo Switch as the only platform missing the entire series. Unfortunately it seems very unlikely that will be happening anytime soon, as series creator Tetsuya Nomura stated in an interview with Nintendo Enthusiast last year that the team was not currently working on bringing any other games in the series to the Switch after the release of Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory last year. So for the time being, it appears as if Nintendo owners will continue to be left out of the entire series.
If this is going to be your first time jumping into the series, you’ll be in for a fun time. Our own Tori Morrow reviewed Kingdom Hearts III, saying, that “at its core, it very much still feels like a Kingdom Hearts game, and that in itself is fantastic and worth mentioning.” I reviewed Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, saying that it’s a “nostalgic trip down memory lane through the music of the franchise.”
