Spirit of the North is Bringing Beauty and Nordic Mythology to the PS4

Infuse Studio is bringing a new 3D Adventure game to the PlayStation 4 entitled Spirit of the North. The star of the show is a red fox accompanied by the guardian of the Northern Lights, which is a “female fox spirit”. The game will have venture throughout a huge, sprawling landscape based off Iceland. According to the official website, the story is derived from Nordic culture and folktales.

The trailer showcases some of the gorgeous landscapes present in the game. It may only be a minute long, but that is more than enough time to create intrigue and interest. Judging from how the trailer looks it does appear to show gameplay. The spirit fox will grant the player power to use during the adventure. So you won’t have to worry about playing as a regular fox that can only run and jump. While it’s still early days for Spirit of the North, the gameplay shown looked linear. The fox mainly travelled on a specific pathway, rather than traversing the 3D environment. However, considering this is an adventure game, we can expect to have bigger areas to walk around.

Spirit of the North doesn’t have a release window, but the end of the trailer says it’s “coming first to PS4”. The phrasing implies it will be a timed exclusive but there is no mention of other platforms yet. A Steam and Xbox One release seem likely, and the Nintendo Switch may even get a port down the line. For now, only PlayStation owners can enjoy this game when it eventually releases.

There’s been a steady stream of new indies coming to all platforms these past few months. While it is a shame that many of them are console exclusives, gamers have a huge selection of games to choose from. Does Spirit of the North seem something you would enjoy? Or are you disappointed it’s a timed PS4 exclusive? Let us know in the comments, check out the debut trailer below.
