The Last of Us Part II Gets a Gruesome New Trailer

Sony unveiled a new trailer for The Last of Us Part II at Paris Games Week today, and it’s a wild, insanely dark, five minute ride. This is our first look at the upcoming title since its original announcement during PlayStation Experience in 2016, and Naughty Dog held nothing back with this second look.

Ellie and Joel aren’t the center of attention in the new trailer. Instead, we see how the world of The Last of Us is expanding beyond their characters. We knew from the first game that it was a cut-throat world out there, but this new trailer shows just how extreme and dangerous is. The trailer focuses on two new characters as they nearly escape death at the hands of their captors. Seriously. It’s not for the weak stomachs out there.

We see a woman get strung up by her neck, while another is tortured as her arms are being hammered. With cars on fire in the background and the rain pouring steadily, it’s a scene of complete chaos. Just as the woman is about to have her right arm bludgeoned, one of her captor takes an arrow through his cheek and stomach.

His death offers a split second for the two women to regain control and fight back, only for the trailer to end with a horde of Infected running toward them. During the five minutes, we get a small glimpse into the story as the female antagonist leans in and asks the struggling woman, “where is the other apostate?”

The Last of Us Part II is still in development by Naughty Dog, and will be released for PlayStation 4. Right now there is no release date, not even a window, but we’ll be sure to keep you updates. You can watch the full trailer for The Last of Us Part II below.
