Select PS5 Exclusives Will Also Release on PS4

Sony is making an aggressive push into the next generation with the PS5, but some of the console’s anticipated first-party exclusives will also launch on the PS4.

In a PS5 info post on the PlayStation Blog, it was revealed that Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Sackboy A Big Adventure will also launch on PS4. The post says, “we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times,” and that “While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch.”

Buying a digital PS4 version of these games will provide purchasers with a free upgrade for either PS5 console, while disc copies will include an upgrade for the $499.99, disc-based PS5 only.

It isn’t terribly surprising that Sony decided to bring these three titles to PS4. The console has sold over 112 million units worldwide, making it the second-best-selling console of all time, only behind the PS2. Having a PS4 version of Horizon Forbidden West is especially beneficial, as Horizon Zero Dawn was the best-selling new IP launch on the console until Ghost of Tsushima was released.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy A Big Adventure will be available on the PS5’s launch day, which is either November 12 or November 19, depending on the territory. Horizon Forbidden West will launch sometime in 2021.
