Rocksteady Studios Won’t Reveal New Game at The Game Awards

Rocksteady Studios, the WB Games-owned studio known for the main Batman: Arkham trilogy, will not be revealing their new project at The Game Awards.

The news comes from the Twitter account of Rocksteady Game Director and co-founder Sefton Hill, who said that the studio is still toiling away in its “development bunker”:

Hill also confirmed that the studio’s next project isn’t a Superman game. Earlier this year, an image for a supposed game titled Superman: World’s Finest appeared online, and several people claimed it was in development at Rocksteady. Ever since the Batman: Arkham trilogy was completed, Rocksteady’s name has been attached to a variety of rumored games based on other DC Comics properties, including Superman and the Justice League.

The gaming community is growing eager for Rocksteady to announce their new project, which has likely been in development for a few years. The studio shipped Batman: Arkham Knight in 2015, and Batman: Arkham VR was released a year later. It was rumored that Rocksteady would reveal their new game at this year’s E3, but Hill put that speculation to rest with a tweet similar to the one he posted today.

With less than one week to go until The Game Awards, gamers have all kinds of theories for what games will be revealed during the show. The ceremony’s creator and producer, Geoff Keighley, tweeted that “more than 10 new games will be announced.” Some speculate that Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics could be ready to reveal their Avengers game, as the website for the project was updated earlier this month. Additionally, Gearbox co-founder and CEO Randy Pitchford started making lot of tweets with references to “3,” which could be hinting at a possible Borderlands 3 reveal. We’ve known for a while that the game is coming, but nothing has been shown for it as of yet.

The Game Awards will air on Thursday, December 6 at 5:30 pm PST/ 8:30 pm EST. The ceremony will be streamed live on a variety of platforms, including YouTube, Twitter, and Twitch.
