Resident Evil Village Announced for PS5, Coming 2021

The next game in the Resident Evil series has seen its share of rumors and speculation over the past couple of months, and thanks to Twitter user, Dusk Golem, who’s been known for their reliable Capcom and Resident Evil leaks, it’s been no secret that the game existed and was in early stages of development. During the PlayStation 5 Future of Gaming event today, though, Capcom finally put an end to all the rumors and revealed an almost 3-minute trailer reveal for Resident Evil Village and also announced a general release window of 2021.

While it doesn’t appear that Capcom is explicitly calling this game Resident Evil 8, Resident Evil Village will serve as the eighth main entry in this long-running, survival horror franchise. The game takes place against a cold, snowy landscape and also sees the surprise return of Chris Redfield.

As far as the story goes, Resident Evil Village takes place a few years after the events of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. In Biohazard, we played as Ethan Winters, who traveled to the crumbling Baker house in Dulvey, Louisiana to find his missing wife, Mia. Resident Evil Village picks up with Ethan and Mia living together and trying to put the traumatic events of the Baker home behind them.

Capcom’s Kellen Haney gives us a bit more about what we can expect, writing:

“Finally able to move on from those horrifying events, Ethan’s world suddenly comes crashing down once again when Chris Redfield, an unexpected yet familiar face makes an appearance, setting off a chain of events that sees a distraught Ethan seeking answers to Chris’s shocking actions… and ultimately finding him in a mysterious village.”

We’re back in a first-person POV in Village, which Haney writes will bring a more visceral edge to combat. Check out the announcement trailer below.
