Platformer GRIS is a Burst of Color Heading to PC and Switch
Devolver Digital has uploaded a trailer for a new 2D platformer, GRIS. It’s being developed by Nomada Studio and is coming to both PC (Steam) and the Nintendo Switch. GRIS currently has a December 2018 release window, with no specific date at this time.
The game has stunning art design and seems to have a vibe similar to games like Journey and Rime but in 2D. It appears that the focus of this game will be the experience rather than tight platforming challenges. However, the Steam page says there will be optional challenges for those who want it. This is a good way to strike a balance between the casual players who want an amazing experience and those who want to test their skills.
Also from the Steam description, we know that the main character’s dress plays a role in gaining new abilities. This sounds like a cool concept using a piece of clothing to progress through the game. Although we don’t have much information as to how the mechanic works, it should be something unique at the least.
Devolver Digital already has an awesome library of games in their catalogue. It’s great to a publisher that helps indie developers advertise their games and get the word out. At the time of writing, the trailer for GRIS has over 60,000 views. The only downside is that it’s only coming to Steam and the Nintendo Switch. It is a shame to see that PlayStation and Xbox fans will be missing out for the time being. On the other hand, Devolver Digital has been bringing plenty of titles to the Nintendo Switch, so owners of the console have lots to look forward to.
The main draw for GRIS is certainly the art style. It’s always great to see indie games develop their own personality instead of using pixel graphics all the time. Truly, an exciting time to be an avid supporter of independent developers. You can view the first trailer for GRIS below:
