New Details Revealed for Kingdom Hearts III’s Re:Mind DLC

Back in April, Square Enix announced that Kingdom Hearts III would be receiving a DLC titled Re:Mind, which would be coming this winter. Aside from the expansion including a new mode and the trailer from E3 2019, fans really didn’t have a lot of information to go on. Now, thanks to a recent interview by the site Famitsu, which spoke with Nomura, we’ve gotten a few more details (and some clarifications) about what to expect when Re:Mind releases near the end of this year.

Note: the details below contain light spoilers for Kingdom Hearts III.

Some clarifications were provided about the brief combat that’s seen in the trailer. It seems fans were under the impression there was a Limit Cut ultimate class fight sequence, when in fact, the trailer doesn’t feature Limit Cut scenes at all. Instead, it’s made up of scenes included in the additional scenario, which is a standalone that can be played after finishing the main story of Kingdom Hearts III.

For those who aren’t aware, the “Limit Cut” phrase is mostly used when referring to the limited, yet challenging Data Battles against members of Organization XIII. The Limited Cut battles were a new addition to the Kingdom Hearts series beginning with Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, and we saw this combat style again when nearing the end of Kingdom Hearts III.

Although there weren’t any Limit Cut sequences in the Re:Mind trailer, that doesn’t mean they won’t be featured in the DLC. Nomura went on to say that there will, in fact, be Limit Cut bosses in the expansion, and that the development team is aiming to have the number of Limit Cut bosses that was seen in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix.

Also coming to the DLC is Sora’s Oathkeeper Keyblade and new form. We caught a glimpse of this already in the Re:Mind trailer that dropped during E3. Square Enix will be releasing the Oathkeeper form as free content when Re:Mind launches. Something also worth noting is players will have the option to play as Roxas and other characters.

Re:Mind will release some time this winter. Nomura stated they want to put it out “as soon as we can”, so it doesn’t release close to the Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Kingdom Hearts III is currently available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Check out our review here.
