Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered Reveals New Features
We’ve known that Marvel’s Spider-Man would be receiving a remastered version on the PS5 alongside the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but we didn’t know what exactly the game would receive as a part of this remaster. That all changes now thanks to a post on the PlayStation Blog that details the upgrades the game will be getting, and they’re sure to excite fans of the game.
The team at Insomniac has updated the visuals of the city in the game so that it takes advantage of the power of the PS5. Not only are there improved textures and models, the remaster also features ray-traced reflections and ambient shadows. If you played the original game, you may remember that the reflections on windows weren’t accurate upon closer inspection. With the new ray-traced reflections, windows now have more realistic and accurate reflections than before.
Insomniac also revealed that the characters in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will also be getting updated visuals. Perhaps most surprising is the reveal that Insomniac has recasted the face of the game’s Peter Parker.
According to Insomniac, this change was made because they wanted to get a better facial match for the facial capture done by Peter’s actor, Yuri Lowenthal. A short snippet from a cutscene was released showing Peter’s new face in motion. This change sparked a strong reaction from the community, leading creative director Bryan Intihar to release a statement on Twitter addressing the change.
For players that wished they could’ve played the original game at a higher frame rate, you’ll be very happy to hear that the new remaster also features a Performance Mode that targets 60fps. Insomniac shared a short clip of the game running at this higher frame rate and it looks great!
On top of all that, the Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will feature near-instant loading times, Spatial 3D Audio with compatible headphones, as well as the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense controller. There will also be new Photo Mode features in the game that are being carried over from Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Lastly, there are going to be three new suits fo unlock in the game, with one of them being the Amazing suit from Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man movie.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered can currently open be purchased as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. If you get the $69.99 Ultimate Edition of the game, the remaster comes as part of the package. If you choose to get the $49.99 base version, you’ll be able to purchase the remaster through the game. As of now, there’s unfortunately no way to get the remaster on its own.
