Marvel’s Avengers Won’t Feature a Multiplayer Campaign

Square Enix officially revealed Marvel’s Avengers during E3 last week, and while we’ve known the game would have some kind of multiplayer component, we didn’t know how this feature would actually be incorporated into the game. Now, thanks to a recent interview, we know the multiplayer mode will not be featured in the game’s main story.

According to Crystal Dynamics, via IGN, as players progress through the campaign, “side missions will open up, and that’s where you’re presented with multiplayer options, and you can choose to be whichever Avenger you want.” It was further explained that players can level up any Avenger on these missions, then return to the main story.

Crystal Dynamics didn’t go into the details of what, exactly, these multiplayer options would be, or what a co-op would look like outside of the main campaign, but we’re sure to get more information in the coming months.

Marvel’s Avengers will release May 15, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. During E3, Square Enix announced that PS4 owners interested in the game will have some great perks to look forward to. Thanks to an exclusive deal between Sony and Square, PS4 users who pre-order the game will be given Beta Access. There’s no information yet as to when the Beta will actually begin, but we’ll keep you updated. In the meantime, check out the E3 reveal of the game below.
