Via the Kingdom Hearts official Twitter account, Game Director Tetsuya Nomura has revealed that development on Kingdom Hearts III is complete. The tweet also contains an extended version of the game’s latest trailer, which is also being shown in North American movie theaters.
During E3 back in June, Square Enix announced that Kingdom Hearts III would release on January 29, 2019. It was originally supposed to come out this year, but Nomura explained to IGN that the game was pushed back to accommodate its worldwide release. There was plenty of skepticism that the game would actually hit that date, but today’s announcement can put fears of another delay to rest.
As with most AAA game releases, Kingdom Hearts III will be available in a variety of different editions on PS4 and Xbox One. A standard edition will be available for $59.99, but fans can also get a hardcover artbook and SteelBook case with the Deluxe Edition, which can be had for $79.99.
PS4 gamers who are looking to get caught up on the series before January have a couple of different options. Kingdom Hearts – The Story So Far – is available now for $39.99 and contains all of the content that was included with Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. Additionally, the Kingdom Hearts All-In-One Package can be purchased on the PlayStation Network for $99.99. If this option is chosen, everything included in Kingdom Hearts – The Story So Far – is playable immediately at the time of purchase, with Kingdom Hearts III becoming available for download upon its release in January. Sony’s console is the only platform where the series can be experienced in full, as none of the previous games have been released on Xbox One.
Kingdom Hearts III has been feverishly anticipated by fans for a very long time. Kingdom Hearts II, the last main entry in the franchise, was released in 2005 on PlayStation 2. Several portable spinoffs have been released since then and the series has become famous for its perplexing and labyrinthine storyline. Nonetheless, it is beloved worldwide for its interesting fusion of Disney and Square Enix characters and locales.
