Free PlayStation Plus Games for January 2019 Revealed

Sony has announced the free PlayStation Plus games for January 2019 via the PlayStation Blog.

The biggest game of the bunch is arguably Steep, Ubisoft’s open world winter sports game for PS4. Sony’s latest console will also get Portal Knights, an action RPG with sandbox elements that features 4-player cooperative play. The entire lineup for the month is as follows:

  • Steep (PS4)
  • Portal Knights (PS4)
  • Zone of the Enders HD Collection (PS3)
  • Amplitude (PS3)
  • Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion (PS Vita, also playable on PS4)
  • Super Mutant Alien Assault (PS Vita)

The games will be available from January 1 to February 5. Even if you don’t plan on playing them right away, be sure to add all of the games to your library so you can download them at a later time. A really handy way to do so is to visit the PlayStation Plus Free Games section on the PlayStation Store website, which allows you to add games from all three platforms to your download list.

PlayStation Plus

The reveal of a new month of PlayStation Plus games also serves as a great reminder to add the current month’s games to your collection, if you haven’t done so already. December’s lineup includes some really good games, including SOMA, Onrush, and Iconoclasts, and will be available until the PlayStation Store updates on Tuesday with the new selection.

As the calendar turns to January, we’re getting closer to a pretty substantial change that will be taking place with PlayStation Plus. As of March 2019, free PS3 and PS Vita games will no longer be included with the service each month, and only PS4 games will be offered moving forward. Polygon confirmed with Sony that the company will continue to offer two PS4 games each month, which means that the monthly PlayStation Plus free game lineup will become significantly smaller. We can only hope that Sony will compensate for that by adding higher-profile PS4 games for subscribers in the future.
