In what is becoming an alarmingly regular occurrence, a member of the games industry is being harassed after making a decision that some “fans” of a game aren’t happy with. In a post on Twitter, Insomniac Games Creative Director Bryan Intihar revealed that he has received “threatening notes” in the wake of recasting the Peter Parker face model for the PS5 remaster of Marvel’s Spider-Man, and presumably future titles.
The tweet mentions that individuals have said they will “hunt” Intihar down and “find” him, and that they are demanding for him to “fix” the recasting. Intihar ends his tweet by asking fans instead to “be a force for good and be respectful of each other.” The tweet garnered messages of support from various members of the games industry, including Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, who received his own torrent of hate after plot details for The Last of Us Part II leaked ahead of the game’s release earlier this year.
Insomniac Games is currently putting the finishing touches on Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, which will be available in a couple of ways to owners of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. For owners of the PS4 version who upgrade to the PS5 version, or those who buy the standard PS5 version outright, the remastered version of the first game will be available as a paid upgrade. The remaster is also included in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Launch Edition, which is available exclusively on PS5. All versions of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be available on November 12, when the PS5 launches in North America, Japan, and other select territories.
