ICYMI Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Trailer and Details Released

Last week we got our first look at the box art for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold war. Now the game completely stepped out of the shadows for its full reveal with a trailer showing the game’s campaign. as well as information straight from Activision, Treyarch Studios, and Raven Software.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a direct sequel to the original Black Ops from 2010, this time taking place in 1981 during the Reagan administration. In Black Ops Cold War, returning characters Hudson, Woods, and Mason take on the mission of trying to find and eliminate a Russian spy named Perseus. As is standard of a Call of Duty campaign, the story will see you going to various locations around the world such as East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, and KGB Headquarters amongst many others.

Raven Software is handling the campaign and bringing some fresh ideas with them. For the first time in the series, you’ll play through the campaign as a character that you create. You can choose to make your character male, female, or gender-neutral, as well as pick different character traits. Throughout the campaign, you’ll also be able to choose different dialogue options. These dialogue choices will be reflective of your chosen character traits and can affect the way that missions play out. In addition, there will also be side missions that you can do if you find the evidence needed to unlock it as you progress.

Treyarch Studios will be handling the multiplayer and their classic Zombies mode. Multiplayer was briefly teased at the end of the new trailer, with the full reveal coming in just a few weeks on September 9th, where Treyarch will talk about the core aspects of the game’s multiplayer: “deniable operations, signature combat, and a connected experience across the entire community.” While the Zombies reveal will be coming sometime after the multiplayer reveal, Activision did give us a tease on the game’s web page of what to expect from the mode in Black Ops Cold War, saying that “Players will bring a Cold War arsenal of weapons and equipment into the next evolution of Treyarch’s signature Zombies co-operative experience.”

The franchise’s free-to-play battle-royale game, Call of Duty: Warzone, will also continue on and be supported by Black Ops Cold War. Treyarch also made it very clear that there will be free post-launch content just like there currently is for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. So additions such as weapons, maps, and modes will come to all platforms for free without the need to buy a season pass. The game will also feature cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-generational play for multiplayer, so everyone can play together no matter what platform they’re on.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War comes out on November 13 for current-gen and PC, and will be available on next-gen when those consoles release. There are a number of different pre-order options for Black Ops Cold War, and they can be a bit difficult to understand. Preordering the Digital Standard Edition for PS4 and Xbox One will get you the Woods Operator and weapon blueprint in Modern Warfare and Warzone, as well as early access to the multiplayer beta, though it will start on PS4 first. The PS4 version of the Digital Standard Edition can be upgraded to the PS5 version, but the Xbox One version currently can not be upgraded to the Xbox Series X version.

If you choose to preorder the Physical Standard Edition of the game on either console, you do not get the pre-order bonuses. They are exclusive to the Digital Edition. Preordering the Physical Standard Edition on PS4 will allow you to upgrade to the PS5 version, but the PS4 disc must be in the console in order to play the PS5 version. The Physical Standard Edition for Xbox One can not be upgraded to the Xbox Series X version. However, the Physical Standard Edition for Xbox Series X has both the current and next-gen versions on the disc. The PS5 Physical Standard Edition will only work on the PS5.

Next, there’s a Digital Cross-Gen Bundle pre-order option that gets you both versions of the game for $69.99 and the associated pre-order bonuses. Finally there’s the Digital Ultimate Edition that includes the Cross-Gen Bundle, a Battle Pass Bundle for one season of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War that includes 20 Tier skips, the Confrontations Weapon Pack, and the Land/Air/Sea Pack that you can use in Black Ops Cold War.

Which one are you going to pre-order? And are you excited for the game? Let us know in the comments below.
